Alyssa Kenney is currently the principal clarinetist of Symphony847, based in Lake Forest, Illinois. Outside of 847, she enjoys freelancing around Chicagoland on Bb, Eb, and bass clarinet. She has recently performed with the Opera Festival of Chicago, Kenosha Symphony Orchestra, and the Notos Clarinet Collective.

She recently graduated from DePaul University with her Master’s and studied clarinet performance under Julie DeRoche and Michael Rusinek. She received her Bachelor’s in Clarinet Performance from Temple University Boyer College of Music. While at Temple, she studied under Paul Demers of the Philadelphia Orchestra. She has also studied under David Yinger and Ricardo Morales. Alyssa has had the opportunity to play with the Temple University Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Concert Orchestra, and a handful of assorted chamber groups. The highlights of her college career have been performing the Brahms Clarinet Quintet under the coaching of cellist Ohad Bar-David, the Poulenc Sextet under Michelle Rosen, and Jeff Manookian Khustup Dances for flute, clarinet, and piano. She is currently an intern and teaching artist with the New Groove Music Studio, where she teaches private clarinet lessons as well as running group lessons with the schools’ students.

Outside of music, Alyssa enjoys being active outdoors with her fiancé Octavian, taking care of her plants, and is currently preparing to take her pharmacy certification exam to move up in her day job.
